Seon Rozenblum, also called the “Surprising Maker,” has expanded his Espressif ESP32-S3 microcontroller growth board household, unveiling what he claims is “the world’s smallest, fully-featured” board to incorporate the half: the OMGS3.
“OMGS3 is the world’s smallest, fully-featured ESP32-S3 board/module,” writes Rozenblum of his newest design. “It is filled with superb options and peripherals, wi-fi connectivity and stacks of flash and PSRAM [Pseudo-Static RAM], and may be floor mounted to a service PCB or have wires soldered to the pads.”

This is not Rozenblum’s first board to characteristic the Espressif ESP32-S3, a component which pre-dates the corporate’s transfer to RISC-V exclusivity and contains two Tensilica Xtensa LX7 cores operating at as much as 240MHz and a RISC-V core as an ultra-low energy coprocessor: again in September 2022 he unveiled the TinyS3, FeatherS3, and ProS3.
The OMGS3, although, is the smallest of the lot — beating even the TinyS3 — because of the choice to drop breadboard-friendly pint headers in favor of surface-mount pads below the board’s underside. These convey out 17 of the ESP32-S3’s general-purpose enter/output (GPIO) pins, together with knowledge pins for a USB connection — the board itself missing any such niceties.

Elsewhere on the compact format is a charging circuit and gasoline gauge for an non-obligatory lithium-polymer battery, 8MB of flash, 2MB of PSRAM, an antenna for the single-band 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.0 Low Power (BLE) radios, a 3.3V regulator delivering as much as 700mA, and a single low-power RGB LED for standing notifications or tiny discos.
Extra info on the board is on the market on Rozenblum’s web site, whereas a GitHub repository features a KiCad challenge for an OMGS3 service board reference design below an unspecified license. The OMGS3 itself, in the meantime, is on the market to order from the Surprising Maker internet retailer at $17, with bulk reductions obtainable.
